Mengel gave me an Imperial Stout from Rusty Rail Brewing Company. I was instantly excited about it, because it says that they are located in Mifflinburg, and I know where that is. It also says that there's coffee in it, and I like that. It also says something about Lycoming College.... I'll just let them tell you what it says...
This Imperial Stout is brewed with hints of Warrior One coffee - an organic, shade-grown blend from Costa Rica. Through a partnership with Lycoming College and Golden Valley Farm Coffee Roasters, sales of this coffee help fund study and research opportunities in the developing world. We’re proud to offer a beer that looks and tastes great, but can also help do some good. Now, there is a bottle code. It's 50408E2122324. I have no idea what this means, and information is not available on my go-to bottle-date-explaining Fresh Beer Only site. It's also not on the RR website (side note: I consider their website pretty good, and it does really make me want to hang out there.) As a matter of fact, I'm looking at the pictures of Rusty Rail on Google Maps, and I want to go there right now and spend a week naming all of the mounts, and then another week sitting on this roof deck. But I have no idea how old this beer is. So I e-mailed them. If I hear anything back, I'll update you.
I generally trust my friends with their Untappd ratings, but I think that maybe they were towards the end of a 20 beer tasting, or their noses were all stuffy. The coffee has gone way south in this. It's super acidic. Which sucks. It doesn't taste horrible, but it doesn't taste great, and definitely not what I wanted a Lycoming College, Golden Valley Farm Coffee, Rusty Rusty Rail Brewing Collaboration. Because the pictures of the pub are so cool, the beer looked so amazing when I poured it, and it turns out that GVFCR is in West Chester. I will totally give this brewery another chance, and next time, I will find a way to make sure that they beer is at least fairly fresh, the way they wanted it. And not this.
So, in summary, Mengel gave me a Lycoming College, Golden Valley Farm Coffee Roasters, Rusty Rail Brewing Collaboration Imperial Stout called Wolf King Warrior. It's from a brewery with a lot of mounts, and there is coffee in it from a Roaster in West Chester.
